If you think all the hard work is done now that you’ve launched you app, and all you need to do is sit back and count the money as people download your app…you are going to be extremely disappointed. Your app isn’t going to sell itself. Nor will the App Store. The only way you are going to be a success is by getting online reviews and mentions…and I’ve found this can be a very frustrating experience. Read more

It’s all about “going viral” today, getting everyone talking about your video or online posting that will bring people to your app, or product. As I’ve found out, trying to spread the word yourself just ends in suspended twitter accounts and getting banned from posting on Facebook, and emailing entire continents.
I have two experiences with attempting this….both of which I would suggest were failures. I think I’d have better luck catching the ebola virus.

Facebook is great place to connect with people and one of the prime ways to use social media to promote. Your friends, acquaintances, people you went to high school with who you never really knew…when you’ve got an app, it’s a built in market. But as I’ve found out the hard way, you’ve got to be careful with how you use it.

Yep. Twitter account was suspended TWICE. Both times had absolutely nothing to do with promoting the apps. I was posting about METEORS for crying out loud!!! But I still managed to screw up my social media efforts.

Yes. I was completely banned from emailing the entire continent of Australia. While most wouldn’t consider email as part of the social media sphere, it is a major way to get the word out about your apps. But it’s also an easy way to get hit with the spammer hammer. Read more

Going to be frank here…if you think that you can just put an app on the App Store and it’s going to sell itself…think again. You gotta market this thing. If you’ve got the capital, you probably have a marketing department who knows what they are doing. If you are a solopreneur like me, you are the marketing department…the secretary…public relations…and the janitor. So it’s up to you to develop your social media strategy. But you have to do it right…

The iTunes Connect portal is great for getting a quick look at your sales and downloads for your apps. I check it first thing every morning to see where my apps are at. I should probably stop, because lately it’s been depressing. But if you want deeper analysis, you’ll need to go somewhere else. A completely free service I recommend is App Annie. Here’s why:
